Selections from the
Handel's Messiah Oratorio
(Translated and Sung in Chinese)
December 21, 2008
For unto us a Child is born,
unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God,
the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
Messiah Introduction
The Messiah Oratorio was composed by George Frideric Handel in 1741. When he wrote this masterpiece, Handel was at the lowest point in his music career. He sought refuge and help in God. The result was the divinely inspired Messiah Oratorio to celebrate the coming of our Savior, Lord Jesus Christ. The oratorio was an immediately success and has continued to inspire generations of Christians.
Tradition has it that when King George II of England attended the concert for the first time, he spontaneously stood up during the singing of the Hallelujah chorus, in awe of the majesty of our Lord – the King of Kings and Lord of Lords -- as revealed in the music. It is now customary that the audience will all stand up during the Hallelujah chorus.
We would to thank God for this opportunity and privilege to perform this oratorio. It has been a tremendous blessing for everyone working on this difficult, yet rewarding music.
We would like to thank:
