Deutsche Messe or German Mass (Deutsche Messe und Ordnung des Gottesdiensts) was published by Martin Luther in 1526. The function of the mass, according to Luther, is to make people hear the word. Thus, unlike the Latin mass, the text and order could be altered for the appropriate church service.
德意志崇拜的程序由德國教士馬丁路德在1526年創建。路德認為，敬拜讚美應當使用普通信眾能聽懂的語言。因此，與以拉丁文進行的崇拜不同的是，為了配合教堂崇拜儀式可以對所使用的經文和禮儀加以修改。
Franz Schubert's German Mass, D. 872 was commissioned by Professor J. P. Neumann of Vienna, a churchman, in 1827. The text of the German Mass' nine brief sections of music is by Neumann, and it was his idea that the work be as musically simple as possible. Eight of the German Mass' nine movements correspond to equivalent portions of the Latin mass (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, etc.). The "extra" ninth movement is an Anhang (appendix) entitled Das Gebet des Herrn (The Lord's Prayer), added anonymously in 1845. For the German Mass, Schubert wrote unassuming yet heartfelt music settings of congregational hymns for performance during the service.
1827年維也納的一名教會人士，紐曼教授為弗朗茨· 舒伯特的《德意志崇拜曲 D.872》的九篇簡短的樂章作詞，這部音樂作品簡潔的風格正是出自他的主張。德意志崇拜曲九篇樂章中的八篇與拉丁文崇拜曲相對應（垂憐曲、榮耀頌、信經等）。“額外”的第九樂章（主禱文）是一篇附加作品，由一位匿名人士在1845年加入到原作中。作為敬拜時奉獻的讚美詩歌，舒伯特為德意志崇拜曲所配的音樂樸實無華卻無不流露出真摯。
Our Chinese translation of the German Mass was started by the late Dr. Kao. We continued the translation using the original German text, with supplement by the existing English translation. We would like to thank sister Fan Ying, sister Fusheng and brother Li Kun for their hard work in this translation. Special thanks to Pastor Liu and Mrs. Liu for editing the final version to ensure that translation is scripture based while retaining the poetic beauty of the Chinese language. All of us benefited from digesting and ruminating the biblical meaning of the German text during the translation. Schubert’s music has brought the text to life but in this sacred work, the music never overshadows the importance of the text.
