Pray for the 10/40 Window
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the ages.
Matthew 28:19,20
Most of the people still unreached by the gospel live in places stretching across the maps of northern Africa and Asia. This region of the world was previously known to Christians as the "resistant belt," as noted by mission strategist Luis Bush at the 1989 Lausanne II Conference in Manila. In 1990, Luis' research led to a meeting with the developer of the first PC-based GIS software. They analyzed the geographic box that lies across Africa and Asia from 10 degrees latitude north of the equator to 40 degrees latitude north of the equator. A few weeks later, Luis' wife Doris recommended renaming it the 10/40 Window, stating that this region ought to be seen as a "window of opportunity" to spread the gospel.
Unreached and unevangelized populations in the Window:
- 865 million Muslims or Islamic followers
- 550 million Hindus
- 150 milllion Chinese
- 275 million Buddhists
- 140 million in 2550 tribal groups (mainly animist)
- 17 million Jews
At least some part of Scripture has been translated into 2,212 of the world's 6,500 languages:
- 366 languages have the entire Bible
- 928 other languages have the New Testament
- Individual books (such as the Gospel of John) are available in 918 additional languages
- 80% of the world's people have access to at least some portion of the Bible in a language they can understand
